Kenai (KEEN-eye) is located on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula, 159 miles from Anchorage, 89 miles from Homer and 11 miles north of Soldotna, Alaska. It is the largest city on the Kenai Peninsula and is situated on a low rise overlooking the mouth of the Kenai River where it empties into Cook Inlet.
Attractions include spectacular fishing opportunities and beautiful scenery. Fish the Kenai River for salmon or go saltwater fishing for salmon or halibut. You can also go hiking in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Birdwatchers can't miss the Kenai Shorebird Festival in May. Also, there are a great number of Siberian snow geese and other waterfowl at Kenai River Flats when they stop to feed on the saltwater marsh in the spring. Visit the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and the Russian Orthodox Church to see religious and art objects brought from Russia in 1841. Enjoy the shops, galleries, restaurants, and an 18 hole golf course.
